Moving into a new home consumes a lot of time. Days are full of planning, packing, and cleaning when moving into a new home. Not only do you have to prepare to leave the home you’re in, but you also have to prepare the home you are moving to.
It's A Great Time To Clean Out
As you start to get ready for the big move, make the decision not to take everything with you. This is a great time to sort through your things. You can throw out, give away, and sell things you do not need or want any more. Once you have successfully done this, you can start packing.
Newspaper Works Great
Once you know you are moving into a new home, start to save all the newspaper you can. They can be used to wrap delicate and breakable objects in your home, like china and glassware. You may want to use a lot of paper for each piece you have. Keep newspapers and flyers that come in the mail or go by the local grocers and pick up newspapers when you can. You can never have enough when moving into a new home.
Don't Forget The Utilities
You will need to set up disconnection and connection of all utilities at both homes. This includes telephone, electricity, cable, gas, and water when moving into a new home. You need to call all the utility companies you currently use and set up a time for them to be turned off and disconnected. You then need to find out what utilities are provided in the area of your new home. Check to see if you need to have additional cables or outlets put in before moving into a new home. Have the utilities turned on a day or two before your move date to make sure everything is working before you get there.
Discontinue Deliveries
Delivery services need to be discontinued and your mail forwarded to your new home. You need to set the date to discontinue services you use, like newspaper and dry cleaning delivery. Many can be transferred to your new home if you live close enough. You will also need to complete a change-of-address form at the local post office so you can start receiving mail at your new address.
Finish Repairs Before Moving Into A New Home
If repairs or renovations need to be done on the new home, go ahead and get those scheduled and completed before moving into a new home. Get wallpaper down and walls painted. There may need to be repairs done both inside and outside of the home. The roof may need to be replaced or the plumbing fixed. The carpet may need a good cleaning or may need to be replaced all together. You want everything fixed or replaced before moving into a new home.
If the flooring in your new home is going to be replaced, go ahead and get that done before you move in and have all the furniture in place. It will be much easier to take out the old and put in the new not having to move furniture first when moving into a new home. Once you move in, you will have furniture to move around or take out of rooms.
Moving into a new home takes a lot of hard work and time. If planned out, you can get everything done before moving into a new home so moving day is a lot easier.
