Preparations For Moving To A New House

For most people, moving to a new house brings about mixed emotions. A family may be happy that they are moving to a new home, but the thought of moving their things may make it seem somewhat of a challenge. Although moving can be stressful, it can also bring people together as you have a great time reminiscing while packing up your years of memories. Moving to a new house can be a dreaded chore or an exciting adventure, depending on the way you look at it. The following paragraphs detail some ideas that will make moving to a new house much simpler.

Organization Is Crucial

Organization is a major factor in moving to a new house. Buy good cardboard boxes specially designed for moving instead of cheap boxes, reused boxes, or those you get free from the grocery store. Clean as you go and stack boxes in an orderly fashion near the front door of your current home.

Get Plenty Of Markers

One marker won't do the job, especially if someone leaves the top off and it dries out. Buy a lot of markers to write description on the boxes so by the time you've moved them in you won't go crazy trying to find the box with the drinking glasses in it.

Have Plenty Of Packing Supplies

Make sure you have plenty of packing supplies before you start packing, including tape, bubble wrap, packing peanuts, packing paper, and more. Always double tape the bottoms of boxes so nothing falls through. It would be a tragedy to lose Great Aunt Edna's antique china just because someone didn't put enough tape on the bottom of the box.

Pack Important Documents Separately

Either rent a safe deposit box or pack your important documents separate from your other things. These papers can include car titles, insurance policies, birth certificates, and more. Transport your important documents separately as well so they are not lost during the moving process. Make sure you coordinate them properly immediately upon arriving when moving to a new house.

Let Children Help

If you have children, let them help when moving to a new house. They can pack many of the things in their room, help in labeling boxes, and a whole lot more.

If You Just Have Too Much Stuff

If you have a ton of stuff and much of it you don't need or want to bring when moving to a new house, consider having a yard sale. The money raised with a yard sale can often help out in paying many of the expenses associated with moving to a new house. As you pack, sort through your things and then consolidate the unwanted items into a pile. Set a date for the yard sale, put out signs, and hopefully you'll ease your load on moving day while making some additional cash.

Moving to a new house can be stressful, but when it's over, it's all worth it. As always, planning ahead will ease the stress and strain of moving. Just remember that everyone finds moving to a new house a little overwhelming. If you stay positive and organized, you might actually enjoy moving day.
