Essential Supplies for a Smooth Move
By Scott Brunson

Moving can be a very exciting but for many people it is just plain stressful. Depending on how long you have lived in one place, sorting through, organizing and safely packing all of your belongings within a set time frame hard. To make a move less stressful and maybe even enjoyable, planning is key as is gathering the proper moving supplies. To help you with your next move, here is a list of supplies you should have on hand in order to pack and move all of your belongings.

Moving Boxes: Probably a bit obvious, but having a good supply of boxes in all different sizes is essential. Moving boxes can often times be purchased from a local moving-trailer or van rental establishment or you can gather used boxes from local grocery and department stores. Most grocery and department stores get shipments on certain days and they will often crush the boxes right away, so it is best to call a head and find out when their shipments arrive and be there as they are unpacking their new merchandise. Make sure you have a variety of sizes to fit all of the different types of possessions in your house. Smaller boxes for breakables and heavier items and bigger boxes for bulkier, lighter items.

Tape: You will need good, sturdy packing tape to re-enforce your moving boxes. Even if your boxes come assembled already, you will want to re-enforce all seems to make sure your valuables do not come crashing through the bottom as you move the box from one point to another. Invest in good tape; it will save you time and frustration while you are packing.

Bubble wrap: Back in the day, everyone protected their breakable items with old discarded newspaper. However, bubble wrap is a much safer and effective way to make sure that grandma's china makes it from your old place to your new place. Investing on the front end will keep you from replacing things on the back end.

Moving Blankets: Invest in a few moving blankets to protect the surfaces of those items that are too large to be boxed up such as dressers and mattresses. Secure the blankets in place by tightly wrapping them with bubble wrap to provide a little extra cushioning.

Moving is time consuming, frustrating and exhausting. By having the proper moving supplies on hand, before you even start packing, it can make the moving experience less stressful for all involved in the process. Moving supplies such as boxes and tape seem a bit obvious, but be sure to invest in the not-so-obvious supplies such as bubble wrap and moving blankets. By having good quality moving supplies on hand, the whole moving process will move more smoothly and make getting to your new home enjoyable.
